Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Review – Does it Hold Up Against the Scorpion Plus?

Whether you live in a small apartment, want a vacuum cleaner that is more or less portable or you just want a small vacuum to help you with quick spot cleaning, the Dirt Devil Scorpion should be on your radar.

While Dirt Devil is a reliable manufacturer, of course, it makes more than one handheld vacuum. So we wanted to see how the Dirt Devil Scorpion handheld vacuum held up against other Dirt Devil vacuums.

The goal here is to help our readers find the right vacuum for their specific needs so take a look at the following comparison article centered around the Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld vacuum.

Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum Overview

The Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum is a convenient, lightweight corded vacuum that is great for quick spot cleaning.

It comes with convenient attachments that makes it useful in a number of cleaning situations. It’s a mid-power handheld vacuum  with a 7-amp motor.

Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum First Impressions

The first thing we noticed about this vacuum was that it was very light. The Dirt Devil Scorpion weighs only 9.75 pounds! It’s light and compact enough to be used by pretty much anyone.

Quick Facts

  • 16 foot power cord
  • 5” width
  • 12” long
  • 75 pounds
  • Includes crevice tool
  • Bagless vacuum
  • Rinsable filter
  • 5” cleaning path
  • Includes extension hose

Key Features

  • Quickflip Crevice Tool – The crevice tool is mounted on the top of the vacuum and flips down quickly when you need it and flips right back up into its housing when you don’t.
  • Rinsable Filter – The included filter can be taken out of the vacuum and rinsed with warm water to keep it clean and reusable.
  • Fingertip Controls – All the controls you need to operate this vacuum are right on the top of the vacuum and you can access them with your fingertips.
  • 45 Liter Dirt Cup – The dirt cup is easily removed from the vacuum and is large enough to hold .45 liters of debris.

How Does it Perform?

The Dirt Devil Scorpion performs well in multiple settings which is what we liked most about it. Whether you just need to suck up some kitty litter or pet hair, you’ll find this vacuum incredibly handy.

It works great in the garage or in the shop too. Just be aware that it has a 7 amp motor which isn’t super powerful; but it should be more than enough for household spills and messes.

We do wish the cleaning width was a little wider; but the narrow width also makes it great for vacuuming tight crevices like sofa cushions and car seats.

It runs pretty quiet and the 16 foot cord gives you plenty of mobility. Plus, no charging required!

How Much Dirt Can it Handle?

It has a .45 liter dirt cup which is more than enough if you plan to use it for spot cleaning only. You have to empty it out after about 30-45 minutes of use.

How Loud is it?

If you are standing about 3 feet away from the Dirt Devil Scorpion when it’s in use, it emits about 84 decibels.

How Heavy is it?

The Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum is very lightweight at only 3.75 pounds.

Is the Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum Easy to Maneuver?

Absolutely. One of our concerns when we first got our hands on the Dirt Devil Scorpion was that it was a corded vacuum.

We were afraid that we were going to get tied up by the cord and that it would limit mobility.

But that certainly wasn’t the case. Not only is the cord long enough to get to where you need to go; the Dirt Devil Scorpion is so light that you can hold it at any angle for long periods of time.

How Durable is it?

Like most modern vacuum cleaners, the Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum is mostly made of plastic.

That being said, it does seem to be very well-made and at least moderately durable. And to help put your mind at ease, Dirt Devil offers a 3-year limited warranty for this vacuum.

Dirt Devil Scorpion Vs Dirt Devil Scorpion Plus – Which is Better?

Amazingly, the Dirt Devil Scorpion Plus actually has a less powerful motor than the Dirt Devil Scorpion.

The plus version has a 5-amp motor. However, it does have a built-in stair and carpet brush tool and the cleaning path is wider.

The Plus version is also slightly lighter than the Dirt Devil Scorpion at 3 pounds. The cord is a bit shorter though at 15 feet.

In our opinion, the Dirt Devil Scorpion Plus is only better if you can get good use out of the additional motorized  pivoting stair and carpet brush.

Dirt Devil Scorpion Vs Dirt Devil Power Max – What’s the Difference?

The main difference is that the Power Max is an upright vacuum and has a much more powerful motor.

The Power Max is the vacuum you’re going to want if you have large carpeted areas or rugs to vacuum.

Dirt Devil Scorpion Vs Dirt Devil Scorpion Turbo

The Dirt Devil Scorpion Turbo is an older model but has most of the same features as the Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum including the quickflip crevice tool, 7 amp motor and 16 ft. power cable.

However, it has a black finish if aesthetics is important to you.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum is definitely worth the money even when compared to the Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum Plus.

It actually has a more powerful motor and a longer power cord than the Plus.

The Plus will only be better in situations where you have to vacuum stair runners or larger carpeted areas. But the Dirt Devil Scorpion Handheld Vacuum is capable, versatile, convenient and very affordable (just around $30) so check it out!
