Final Assessment
So what’s the better option? While both of these chainsaws have their fair share of pros and cons, we think more commercial, forestry and private homeowners will appreciate the consistent performance of the Stihl 461.
The torque is really what won us over because in almost every other regard, the Stihl 461 and the Stihl 462 perform very similarly. The weight of the Stihl 461 is exacerbated as soon as you slap anything longer than a 20” bar on it; but that’s a forgivable drawback for us in light of the awesome cutting power.
