Husqvarna ST330 Review – Is It Worth It?
Picking the right snow blower for your property can be tricky. If you aren’t careful, you can end up with a machine that looks powerful enough to handle all your snow removal tasks; but then you realize it’s all just a show when you get it out in the snow.
The fact is that there are a lot of manufacturers out there who skimp on parts because a lot of consumers simply don’t know a lot about the mechanics of snow blowers. But we know Husqvarna to produce heavy-duty blowers that more often than not, live up to their rugged images.
So today we will be reviewing the Husqvarna ST330 to help you decide if it’s the right blower for you.
Husqvarna ST330 Overview
The Husqvarna ST330 is a capable snow blower that would be suitable for large driveways and large properties. It is built to perform in deep snowfall and has a host of premium features. On top of all that, it’s pretty easy to control.
Husqvarna ST330 First Impressions
The reason we mention control in that last section is because this thing is big and burly. It looked to us at first like it was going to be unwieldy and hard to manage in the snow. But that wasn’t the case at all.
Even while the Husqvarna ST330 can clear 30” of snow with one pass and bears a hefty cast iron auger housing, it’s mainly the power steering feature that makes this blower easy to operate.
Quick Facts
- Fuel tank capacity – 1.45 gallons
- Engine – 369cc
- Horsepower – 10.2 HP
- Clearing width – 30”
- Clearing Depth – 12+ inches
- Operation – 2-stage
Husqvarna ST330 Key Features
- Heated Handle Grips – Heated handle grips are a luxury feature but may be essential when the temperatures are near zero.
- Cast Iron Impeller – The impeller and the auger housing are made of durable cast iron.
- Power Steering – Power steering makes the Husqvarna ST330 very easy to maneuver even in heavy snowfall.
- LED Headlights – The bright headlights make it easier to see your lines and avoid objects in the snow when visibility is low.
- Boron Steel Scraper – The scraper on the bottom of the auger housing is made of durable boron steel and helps scoop up frozen and hard-packed snow.
How Does it Perform?
We were really impressed with how well the Husqvarna ST330 performed in heavy, hard snowfall. The steel scraper does an excellent job of lifting up hard snow so that the auger can make mincemeat out of it.
This is a 2-stage blower which means the auger and impeller work together to blast snow out of the chute. The Husqvarna ST330 also features heavy-gauge belts that allow for smooth performance even in heavy snowfall. And of course, the power steering makes it easy to pivot and change directions.
How Much Snow Can it Handle
The Husqvarna ST330 has a clearing width of 30” and based on our testing, it can easily handle 16” of snow.
How Loud is it?
At its highest engine capacity, the Husqvarna ST330 produces 105 decibels which is about average for a snow blower of this size.
How Heavy is it?
The Husqvarna ST330 weighs 277 pounds.
Is it Easy to Maneuver?
In a word, yes. The power steering was probably a necessary touch because the Husqvarna ST330 is big and heavy. The controls are intuitive even if you have never operated a snow blower of this size before. The handle height can even be adjusted to suit your own height and comfort.
How Durable is it?
We really like that the auger is made of steel and that the impeller and auger housing are made of cast iron. While these materials do contribute to the considerable weight of this machine, they also make it very durable overall.
What Type of Auger Does it Have?
The Husqvarna ST330 sports a heavy-duty, steel, ribbon style auger which means it’s serrated. The auger is a big reason why this blower is so capable. It chews through all kinds of snow – even old, frozen, hard-packed snow.
Husqvarna ST330 Vs Husqvarna ST330p
The only major difference between the Husqvarna ST330 and the Husqvarna ST330p is that the Husqvarna ST330p is self-propelled so it’s even easier to operate.
Husqvarna ST330 Vs Husqvarna ST230
The ST230 also has a 30-inch clearing width but a less powerful 8 HP engine. It also has an aluminum auger housing instead of cast iron. The ST230 lacks some premium features like heated handles and cast iron impeller.
How Long Should it Last?
Thanks to the steel and cast iron appointments, we can easily see the Husqvarna ST330 lasting for about 10 years.
