Snow Joe Sj625e Review – Is It Any Good & Worth Buying?

Snow Joe Sj625e2

Does the idea of clearing your driveway of snow within minutes and without having to break your back with a shovel entice you?

Yup, it entices us too. In fact, we’d bet that having a snow blower handy is an attractive prospect to anyone that lives in an area that gets seasonal snowfall.

While powering through snow swiftly sounds great, many people don’t like dealing with oil changes and filling up gas tanks. If that sounds like you, an electric snow blower may be right up your alley.

And to help you choose the right electric snow blower, we went out and tested one of the most popular ones on the market, the Snow Joe Sj625e Electric Snow Blower. Let’s take a look at the details.

Snow Joe Sj625e Snow Blower Overview

“The Snow Joe Sj625e electric snow blower is more than capable for mid-sized or small driveways. This is a single-stage blower that has a surprising amount of power. Plus, it’s electric so you don’t have to keep up with oil changes.”

Snow Joe Sj625e First Impressions

Snow Joe Sj625e

To be honest, when we read that this was an electric single-stage snow blower, we didn’t have high hopes in terms of power and performance.

We were also a bit wary of the fact that this was a corded electric snow blower.

However, once we started using it, we were pleasantly surprised. The Snow Joe Sj625e has enough power for a 2-3 car garage driveway and has some features that you wouldn’ expect from a blower in this engine class.

Quick Facts

  • Single-stage snow blower
  • 21 inch clearing width
  • Directional chute control
  • LED light
  • 15 amp motor
  • Corded operation
  • 8 inch auger height
  • Rubber auger blades

Snow Joe Sj625e Key Features

  • 8” Auger Height – The auger height is great for clearing up to about 11 inches of snow in one pass.
  • LED Light – There is an onboard LED headlight that makes it safer to clear snow at night or in low-visibility conditions.
  • Corded Operation – You have to hook the Snow Joe Sj625e snow blower up to an extension cord but that also means that you get unlimited runtime and that you don’t have to deal with annual oil changes.
  • All-Terrain Wheels – The tread on the wheels helps them glide along soft snow very smoothly.
  • 21 Inch Clearing Width – The 21” clearing width allows you to clear a 2-car garage driveway in less than an hour.

How Does it Perform

Snow Joe Sj625e1

One thing we really liked about the Snow Joe Sj625e snow blower is that it only weighs 34 pounds.

It’s lightweight and easy to maneuver. As far as soft and fluffy snow goes, the Snow Joe Sj625e performs very well.

It is a bit slow because it doesn’t have an impeller or accelerator. But as long as you take time with your passes, you should get done with your driveway quickly.

How Much Snow Can it Handle

Based on our testing, we would say that the Snow Joe Sj625e snow blower is good for about 11 inches of snow. According to the manufacturer, this machine can move 800 pounds of snow per minute.

How Loud is it?

Snow Joe Sj625e5

Not very loud at all. Remember that this is an electric, single-stage snow blower so it is going to be very quiet as opposed to a gas-powered blower.

How Heavy is it?

The Snow Joe Sj625e snow blower weighs just 36 pounds.

Is it Easy to Maneuver?

Snow Joe Sj625e3

In thicker snow, you are going to have a bit of trouble pulling and pushing the Snow Joe Sj625e snow blower because it is not a self-propelled model.

But again, it is very lightweight so as long as you stick to the 11” clearing range, you shouldn’t have any problems.

How Durable is it?

This was something we were a bit concerned about because most of the Snow Joe Sj625e is made of plastic.

However, it handled itself well – even in moderately wet snow. It does feel a bit insubstantial because of the weight and plastic construction; but that didn’t seem to affect its performance or detriment its durability.

Snow Joe Sj625E vs SJ623e

The main difference between these two models is that the Snow Joe Sj625E has a wider clearing width by 3 inches. The SJ623e model is still electric but it’s more compact and suitable for single-car garage driveways.

Snow Joe sj625e vs sj627e

There is very little difference in the way that these 2 blowers perform. The SJ627e has a 22” clearing width and features an extra LED light. But in our opinion, those two minor differences aren’t enough to justify the higher price.

How Long Should the Snow Joe sj625e Last?

We can foresee some issues with the rubber-tipped augers but it’s not unreasonable to think that the Snow Joe sj625e snow blower will last at least 5 years with proper maintenance.

Who Should Buy the Snow Joe sj625e?

Snow Joe Sj625e4

When our testing was concluded, we were convinced that the Snow Joe sj625e snow blower would be a great choice for anyone with a 2-3 car garage driveway.

We were surprised at the fact that it did actually take care of moderately wet snow.

As long as you have a long enough extension cord, the Snow Joe sj625e snow blower would work for up to a 3-car garage driveway.

Snow Joe sj625e Snow Blower Pros

  • Unlimited runtime
  • No need for annual oil changes

Final Assessment

Snow Joe Sj625e7

The Snow Joe Sj625e snow blower really surprised us. It is more powerful than most blowers in the same class.

Maneuverability may be an issue for some since it’s not self-propelled; but it’s light enough to compensate for that.

Overall we would highly recommend it for anyone with a 2-3 car garage driveway who is looking for a reliable snow blower.
